Thursday 29th January saw a group of Leeds College of Building students visit the Carillion Swarcliffe PFI scheme.
The trip was organized by Anthony Mills, K. Rouse SEQ Manager and a part time student currently at LCB, Vaughan Minshull, the college’s faculty manager and lecturer, Lenny Hanlon, K. Rouse Project Manager and also Chris Phillips, Carillion Project Manager.
The students are currently studying Civil Engineering within the college and will soon be finishing and looking for work placements.
Following a Carillion site induction the students were shown around the site. They were shown the civils aspects of the site, these being a series of “home zones” done by K. Rouse. The home zones see the removal of broken paving and clay and the installation of new drainage, foot paths and block paved parking areas for the residents of Swarcliffe. Pictures of these can be found on the Contracts page of the website.
The students were then taken into Sherburn Court, which is a block of flats at the top of the estate and has seen a full re-furbishment. The entire block has had new kitchens, bathrooms, windows, improved communal areas along with a long list of general improvements.
The visit was a great success in allowing the students to experience a live site.
K. Rouse hopes to undertake another site visit later on in the year.
