Dawsons Corner

K Rouse are providing plant and labour to John Sisk & Son for the improvement works at the A647 Dawsons Corner.

The improvement works will address longstanding congestion issues at the A647 Dawsons Corner and Stanningley Bypass, which connects two of the most important routes in the city, the A647 Stanningley Road and the A6120 Ring Road.

The bypass is used by 57,000 vehicles and 1,200 pedestrians and cyclists every day, and work to improve it was awarded funding of £35.709M from the Department for Transport in February.

The project is also supported by £8.47M of funds from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, and forms part of the Connecting Leeds strategy to maintain and improve Leeds’ Inner and Outer Ring Roads.

Sisk will start enabling works this month and the scheme is expected to take 18 months to complete.

It will involve replacing the existing roundabout, as well as joints on the A647 Stanningley Bypass. The A6120 ring road will be widened for a shared pedestrian and cycle route, while the A647 Stanningley Bypass will also be widened to accommodate more lanes.

The scheme will also introduce dedicated bus lanes and better facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.
